Due to the global COVID-19 pandemic, as part of the project the partner hospitals received additional EU funding in 2020 under the CBC Poland-Belarus-Ukraine 2014-2020 in the amount of EUR 292,291.19 to support the hospitals to counter the spread of the SARS-CoV-2 infection and its negative effects within the border area.

As part of the project, the Regional Specialist Hospital in Biała Podlaska purchased:

  • tests for the detection of SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus,
  • professional medical equipment – automated closed Real-Time PCR system for the Microbiology Laboratory, intended, among others, to perform tests for the presence of SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus.

The Brest Regional Clinical Hospital in Brest also took delivery of other medical equipment, which, like in Poland, will help to improve the epidemiological situation related to the SARS-Cov-2 coronavirus pandemic in the border area:

  • modular intensive care stations with ventilation facilities,
  • R-series defibrillators (to support cardiopulmonary functions),
  • laryngoscopes with additional accessories,
  • 80 l/min oxygen concentrator,
  • syringe pumps to dispense medicines and oxygen,
  • reusable protective coveralls.

The measures taken by the hospitals were required to prevent and combat SARS-CoV-2 and limit the spread of COVID-19 among people living within the border area. In the longer term, such support provided to the partners will also contribute to the establishment of two specialised centres on both sides of the border aimed at the rapid and early diagnosis, treatment of SARS-CoV-2 patients and containment of the spread of COVID-19 across the Polish-Belarusian border.
