On 24-25.10.2019, the opening conference of the project was held in Janów Podlaski (Poland). The conference was attended among others by guests representing the field of epidemiology and infectious diseases from Poland and Belarus, representatives of the local authorities, the Consulate of the Republic of Belarus in Biała Podlaska, staff of the Brest Regional Hospital in Brest and the Regional Specialist Hospital in Biała Podlaska, guests from other hospitals and the local media.

During the opening conference, the 5th Jubilee Polish-Belarusian Health Summit also took place. Launched in 2015, the forum has a good reputation in the international medical community. It is a place for the exchange of knowledge and experience in the field of health care in Poland and Belarus.

The opening conference hosted a total of 135 people, including 50 people from Belarus.

The conference was opened by Adam Chodziński, Director of the Regional Specialist Hospital in Biała Podlaska. He had the pleasure to take the floor as well Mr. Aliaksandr Karpicki – Director of the Brest Regional Hospital in Brest and prof. Jarosław Fedorowski – President of the Polish Federation of Hospitals. The topic of the first panel discussion was “Epidemiology”. During this panel group, lecturers gave lectures and participated in discussions on topics such as: “Epidemiology” was the topic of the first panel discussion, during which the following issues were discussed:”Epidemiological priorities – challenges in the 21st century”, “Multi-resistant infections – in Poland and Europe”, “Nosocomial infections and medical safety”.

The next panel discussion covered “Infectious Diseases”, in particular: “Methods of diagnosis and treatment of hepatitis B and C”, “Medicine programs related to hepatitis”,”Challenges facing Eastern Europe in the field of infectious diseases”. The next thematic session focusses on new technologies, in particular innovative solutions available on the Polish market of medical services and their application in health care.

The participants of the conference from Poland and Belarus exchanged of their experiences and knowledge in the field of the management with the patients with infectious diseases, including particulary dangerous, including they took part in further discussion on other solutions between medical centers in Poland and Belarus in the field of the early diagnosis and treatment of infectious diseases in order to stop their rapid spread.

The conference was aimed to highlight the relevant role of cross-border cooperation in the development of health care institutions and the exchange of knowledge and practical experience within the established cooperation, including the exchange of experience and strengthening mutual cooperation between health care units from Poland and Belarus on the treatment and diagnostics of infectious diseases within the Polish-Belarusian border area. It also contributed to the wide dissemination of information about the project, its results and objectives, as well as its co-financing from the European Union funds.

On 27-28.08.2021 , a video conference summarizing the project was held. The conference was attended, among others, by Management and employees of hospitals implementing the project, specialists in the field of infectious diseases from Poland and Belarus and other invited guests, local media.

The on-line closing conference hosted a total of 100 people, including 50 people from Poland.

The conference was opened by Aliaksand Karpitski, Director of the Brest Regional Clinical Hospital in Brest. He had the pleasure to take the floor as well Mr. Adam Chodziński – Director of the Regional Specialist Hospital in Biała Podlaska and a representative of the Branch of the Joint Technical Secretariat of the Cross-border Cooperation Programme Poland-Belarus-Ukraine 2014-2020 in Brest.

During the closing conference, there was a presentation of the project’s results and further discussion on solutions for the early diagnosis and effective treatment of infectious diseases in humans, limiting their rapid spread across the border. The participants of the conference raised among others the topic of cooperation between both partner hospitals in the implementation of the project, its results and benefits for Beneficiaries and residents of the border area, experiences and prospects of application in the hospitals on non-invasive elastography-based liver examination in diagnostic and treatment of the patients among others with infectious liver diseases (e.g. hepatitis C caused by HCV virus infection) or topic modernization of the diagnostic base of the hospitals in identification the maximum spectrum of pathogens of the infectious diseases for the diagnosis, treatment and reduction of the risk of the adverse effects of the of the course of the severe, acute and chronic infections. Additionally during the conference, topics related to the current epidemiological situation of COVID-19 in Poland and Belarus were also discused, including implemented methods of diagnosis and treatment of patients infected with the SARS-COV-2 coronavirus in both partner hospitals (with used of the equipment purchased in the project).

An important element of the talks was the analysis of future areas of cooperation between both units, both in the joint implementation of subsequent projects and in the exchange of knowledge and experience. The participants of the conference from Poland and Belarus exchanged of their experiences and knowledge in the field of the management with the patients with infectious diseases, including particulary dangerous, as also they took part in further discussion on other solutions between medical centers in Poland and Belarus in the field of the early diagnosis and treatment of infectious diseases in order to stop their rapid spread.

The organization of the conference will allow specialists from both countries to establish long-term cooperation, which will encourage, among others, to conduct further research that will enhance the development of medicine in the field of diagnostics and treatment of infectious diseases and to reduce the risk of particularly infectious diseases in the border area.
