The joint implementation of the cross-border project by the partner hospitals in Poland and Belarus has undoubtedly contributed to the expansion of the infrastructural facilities of both hospitals and an increase in the quality of diagnostics and treatment of patients with suspected diseases, among others particularly dangerous ones. The joint hospital initiative in this regard will significantly reduce the spread of these diseases across the border in the long term.
As part of the project, in 2019-2020 the Regional Specialist Hospital in Biała Podlaska purchased professional medical equipment dedicated to the Observation-Infectious Diseases Unit, the Microbiologica Laboratory and the Laboratory Diagnostics Department:
- equipment for non- invasive liver examination using the elastography method,
- automated closed Real-Time PCR system,
- microbiological safety class II laminar flow cabinet,
- controlled orbital shaker,
- system for automated staining of specimens with the Gram’s method with a starter package,
- laboratory incubator, approx. 140 l,
- laboratory incubator, approx. 55 l,
- laboratory centrifuge with accessories,
- microscope with additional digital video camera with archiving software,
- system for automated staining of smears of blood and bone marrow with the May- Grünwald’s method with a starter package
In addition, as part of the project, in 2020 in the Regional Specialist Hospital in Biała Podlaska the second line of the pneumatic transport system from the Hospital to the Centre for Infectious Diseases and Phthysiopulmonology was launched. This automatic closed pneumatic transport system is used to pass, among others, collected biological material, medicines or medical documentation using compressed air (a blower) through special PVC pipes running through walls of individual buildings, rooms. Such items (to be transported) are placed in a special capsule. Transport can take place within a single building as well as across more than one building.
The first line of the pneumatic transport system between the Hospital Emergency Department (ED) and the Laboratory Diagnostics Department, the Imaging Diagnostics Unit and the Serology Laboratory was launched at the Regional Specialist Hospital in Biała Podlaska in 2017. The second line of the system at the Hospital is used to transport collected biological material, medicines or medical documentation between new dispatch-collection stations located at the Centre for Infectious Diseases and Phthysiopulmonology: the Microbiological Laboratory, the Oservation-Infectious Diseases Unit and the Phtysiopulmonology and Pulmonary Oncology Unit, as well as between these organisational units and the 1st line stations.
In the long-term perspective, it will contribute to establishing a specialised centre – the only one of its kind in the northern part of the Lublin province near the Polish-Belarusian border – for the early specialist diagnostics and treatment of highly infectious patients as well as increasing the accessibility of comprehensive medical care for people living in the region and performing specialised tests in this field in one centre.
As part of the partnership project, the Brest Regional Clinical Hospital in Brest purchased specialised medical equipment dedicated to the Infectious Diseases Unit opened in 2016 and the Clinical Laboratory Diagnostics Unit in operation at the Hospital.
This professional equipment, like in the Regional Specialist Hospital in Biała Podlaska, will serve to shortening diagnostics and improving the quality of treatment of infectious patients and thus reducing the spread of infectious diseases across the border. In total, in 2019-2021, as part of the project, 61 pieces of equipment were delivered to the Partner Hospital in Brest, including:
- device for non- invasive elastography-based liver examination,
- automated Gram Stainer with slide preparation and cytocentrifuge with a starter package,
- automatic clinical chemistry analyzer, high throughput, with a starter package,
- automatic express Real-time PCR system with a starter package,
- Real-time PCR analyzer with a starter package – Real-time amplifier
- PCR-box thermostat,
- centrifuges-vortex,
- laboratory information system,
- a set for semiautomatic IFA tests (incl. Voscher, shaker),
- automatic urine analyser with a starter package,
- automated system for electrophoresis with high resolution for immunofixation tests,
- automatic nucleic acids and lipids extraction system,
- multilaser flow cytometer with sorter and automated samples delivery with a starter package,
- microscopes,
- transport chamber,
- apparatus for biodecontamination of air in rooms and devices to air conditioning,
- analytical system for identifying the stimulus and its resistance to antibiotics,
- expert-grade ultrasonic diagnostic device for special elastographic and elastometric tests.
In the long-term perspective, it will contribute to establishing a specialised centre – the only one of its kind in the Brest District near the Polish-Belarusian border – for the early specialist diagnostics and treatment of highly infectious patients as well as increasing the accessibility of comprehensive medical care for people living in the region and performing specialised tests in this field in one centre.
